I have a question on whether the words to, into, and by can be contracted and attached to a word that is italicized and uncontracted. See the following example:
Directions: Read each sentence. Say the underlined word to yourself. Listen for the vowel sounds that the letters ee, ai, and oa represent. Circle the word in () that has the same vowel sound as the underlined word.
1. I listened intently, then sat down to braille my response. (sell/seal)
As you can see, the underlined word is transcribed with emphasis and since the word deals with pronunciation it has to be uncontracted (see Rule 3, section 1c. for the emphasis and Rule 1, section 4 for uncontracted braille). My question is, do I contract the word "to" and attach it to the emphasized and uncontracted word "braille" in the exercise?
Respectfully, Travis Davis
