Good morning, Is there a rule concerning how much extra spacing should be allowed when transcribing consumable workbooks for young children ( age 6-8)? Or is this just a matter of personal judgment? The directions for the answer require "answer in a complete sentence" or a short description. Thank you for your attention to this question.

The Formats rule for young readers is given in Rule 1 Section 2b. There is no mention of comsumable material, so the same rules that apply to readers of any age for this type of material also apply to young readers.
Further note that Formats does not give specific rules at all for consumable materials! See Rule 13 Section 9, which essentially says that braille requirements for consumable material are determined on a case basis by working with the agency producing the braille and/or the teacher. It specifically says that determining braille formatting for this matterial is NOT the responsibility of the transcriber.

Thank you, Joanna, That was what I was afraid was going to be the answer... no specific determination. My agency has been unable to get a response from the requesting teacher all summer. Maureen
