Boxed Material??
|
I have been running into this quite a bit. Here in this History book and also a lot in a 3rd grade math book. It looks to me that I have boxed material on facing pages. I would like to know how this should be treated, how I would continue the regular text, and how the page numbering is supposed to look. I thought that I was supposed to combine the print page numbers like it says in rule 6 pg 72, but when I looked at example 24 given in the examples section it shows a Transcriber's note stating that ... and the print page number is not combined?
Can you help? Thank you for the advice.
Neither of my files .jpg nor .pdf will attach. The site continues to tell me "Max attachment size is 1500kb" so apparently my file is too big? ;)

Author?
|
In this small partially technical science book there doesn't seem to be an author. On the print title page it says: Developed at Lawrence Hall of Science University of California at Berkely Is that what I use for the author? Also I am "trying to use" the new formats with this where it won't be utilized by the student until 12-13 school year. Also when there isn't the word "Copyright" in print do I still write it in braille?
Thanks, Tina

The title page does include the "© with the date" just not the word "copyright". And thank you for getting back to me on this, I really like the way the new formats is set up. ;)

Rule 5?

Can you tell me if Rule 5 is still in effect? I can't seem to find anything for Mathematical signs. I am specifically looking for dimensions in the new Braille formats.

Sorry I forgot to say this is partially technical work and this section (2 pages) will be in Nemeth code.

Colored Fonts and Boxes
|
In the new Braille Formats Rule 5 and 7 for colored fonts and boxes. I am a little confused on how something like this (attached) would be handled. This textbook is a partially technical science book for a 3rd gr student and it has a lot of colored fonts and boxes. Lots and lots ... :( One of my questions: for #1 at the top of 1st page. The words "Focus Skill" is in a circle and is red and the words "Main Idea ..." is in blue (all of these are in the same color throughout book). Do we put the colored font "red" before "Focus ..." and then "blue" before each "Main ..."?
The boxes even though numbered on this page (this is not the case for all) we put the color for each box throughout whole book?
Thank you for all your help and time it is greatly appreciated by all of us. ;) Tina

Nemeth Cert Lesson 4
|
I am a little confused and was hoping for some advise. ;) Pg. 57 44 a. (1) - b. (1)-(4) and also pg 59 examples are all set in 1-1. Now I am sure I am missing something here, but I really want to understand and do my best with this. Why are they set in 1-1? I am sure I can't get help with the exercise itself, but it looks to me that I would set most of these this way? ;) I am so geared to younger grade math and having to set at 1-3 or 1-5 w/3-5, that I am confusing myself. ha ha Thank you all for putting up with my questions.

Repeated sidenote
|
So we are translating a 3rd grade Spelling book. There are a couple of different marginal notes that repeats itself in the same location of each lesson. I cannot seem to find the rule which pertains to this in the new Braille Formats 2011, I am sure I am just overlooking it.
Can we just take the repeating note out and put it on the Transcriber's notes page? Or what do you suggest?
Thank you for your help as always ;)

Repeated sidenote

The 4 pages attached are the ones in question. So I am not sure how other people actually write on their .pdf files, so I will just add that here. ;)
The ones in question would be the circled text off to the right and also the boxed text talking about strategy. And while I have your attention; how would you treat the spelling pattern box below? We are actually emphasizing the red part words with italics to show the student. Let me know what you think.
Thank you so much for your time.

Chinese Characters

Hello once again. ;) I have a 3rd grade reading textbook. There is a story within this book that has Chinese characters embedded within the story. Can you please take a look and advise what I should do here?
Thank you, Thank you. You are so very appreciated from here. ;)

Supplemental title page
|
I am using 2011 formats and I was noticing the changes in producing a title page. The one thing (well I have many things, but I'll keep to one) ;) Do we always have to insert the Printing History statement now? I certainly do not have enough room on the first title page, so does this mean I will always have a supplemental to insert this statement on?
Just wondering, trying my best to understand and do this right. ;)
Thanks so much for you help. Tina

Spelling Table
|
Please help! We are using the new Braille Formats rules and we are trying to make this pronunciation spelling table. Could you please give us some advice on how to set this up? Duxbury isn't being very nice right now. ;) What we have been doing is setting it up as a listed table because of the width of it.
Thank you for your help. Sorry forgot to attach. edited by tjensen on 8/1/2012

I wanted to add a question to this if I may. What about the underline indicator for words? Would we use this in our Nemeth work or should we wait on this also?
Thanks

Colored digits and bulleted lists
|
Good morning, I am working on a 3rd gr math book. Could you please help with the formatting of the bulleted lists and displayed expressions? They also have colored digits in the displayed expressions. Do I put an embedded tn telling the reader what colors are displayed? Or do I set it off and write it before?
Sorry for all the questions, I have a total brain melt down with all the different rules and things I have done this week. ;)
Thank you for all your assistance with this. I know that I would not want to do this job without experts like you to help me.
