    Hello Julie

Problem: Ellipses and adjacent word at the end of a line.

When I opened an old braille file with the new version of Braille 2000, where this siuation occured, the new program "break" up the word and the ellipses, leaving the word at the and of the line and move the ellipses to start the new line. (they were unspaced from each other in print)

I emailed and asked Dr. Stepp about this. He told me that "Formats suggests that the transcriber add a space before/after the ellipsis when the ellipsis does not signify omission. "

I thought per UEB we should follow print copy in term of spacing between them. But when I looked at Section 7.3 of Rules of UEB It appeared that he is corrected. I wish we have another example with full word (not just th...) where the word and the ellipses should be connected.

Please help me to clear up this problem about spacing between them.

    Thank you very much

    Tung

    Hi Tung,

UEB 7.3.1 does not say to space the ellipsis whenever it occurs unless it indicates an omission of part of a word. It says to space the ellipsis if that is what print does or if the print is indeterminate or inconsistent. If it's clearly unspaced in print, follow suit.

When an unspaced ellipsis and word fall at the end of a braille line, they should be brought down together to the next line, as a single symbols-sequence.

    Braille on,

    Julie
