I am transcribing an Algebra 2 book in UEB TECHNICAL

I've encountered the equal sign with a question mark above it. At the bottom of attached page.

I can't find it in any UEB TECHNICAL  "manual" so would like to ask what is being used for it before I "devise" a symbol for it.

    Thanks In Advance

    Hi,

My apologies for the delay. I'm researching this. We've almost reached a consensus and am waiting for confirmation.

    Hi,

Thank you for your patience. In this instance, we recommend the "directly over" approach to the question mark. We don't believe a grade 1 indicator is needed for the question mark, as it is at the end of the sequence and would not be confused with an opening quotation mark.

Please note, also, that the check mark at the bottom of the page is brailled as dots 4, 146, officially adopted a few weeks ago. This replaces the proposed symbol of dots 5, 146.

    I've attached the braille symbols.

    Braille on,

    Julie

This is still wonderfully relevant. However, we now believe the vertical juxtaposition indicator (GTM 14.3.3) should be used in transcribing "question mark over equals sign."

APH's UEB Math Tutorial describes this method for transcribing a "question mark appears directly above the equal sign in print" in its Lesson 6.7.

So, what I would recommend for ≟ is ;;8]"7

The vertical juxtaposition indicator (instead of the directly above indicator) more accurately communicates the intent of the symbol ≟, because it lets the question mark and the equals sign have separate meanings instead of making the equals sign's meaning be "modified" by the question mark.
