Formats 2011 2.8.1c says not to include reviews from other authors on the book cover or jacket. I want to make sure I understand this, because many people will buy (or not buy) a book based on those reviews and it seems to me to be withholding information. So, if some other author says “This author makes excellent use of characterization, etc.,” that should be omitted? Is that what the guideline is referring to?

What about the reviews that are inside a book and not on the cover?

This is actually unchanged from previous Formats. “Reviews” in a textbook usually are nothing more than advertising. This guidelines also conforms to Library of Congress standards.
