Braille Formats 10.3.2 states “Use 5-5 margins for unnumbered or unlettered directions.” Additionally,  BF 10.3.4 states: “Follow print format for instructions without specific question/answer activities. Paragraphs may be indented (3-1) or blocked (1-1).”

In the attached example, would the first two directions, “Use the exchange rate…” and “Use the following …” be considered paragraph directions, while the third direction, “For #1 and #3, select…” would be considered a cell 5 direction since it is followed by specific question/answer material as described in BF 10.3.1 ? Alternatively, should all three directions be formatted in 5-5 since they all pertain to the same exercise?

    Thank you!

    Hi Kim,

    Thanks for the question.

10.3.2 and 10.3.4 can be quite confusing at times. I often struggle myself with which way to go.

In the example you provided, I would treat the first two using 10.3.4 since there is no specific activity or exercise follow the directive. It seems that the information there applies to the whole test.

The last one I would use 10.3.2 since there are two questions and answers following the directions.
