I am a piano teacher and found that the NLS carries the ABRSM Theory Textbooks by Eric Taylor. They include a good deal of exercise material. They are in English Braille pre-UEB and some of the formatting is different from current practices. But, I see that more current UEB British texts are also using musical commas to show beaming. My question is: is this a “British thing”? Or is it a “facsimilie thing”? If I am transcribing this exercise material myself, would it be OK to just leave out those musical commas?

I agree that the music commas to show beaming in these situations can be omitted in exercises such as these. I’m honestly not sure if it’s a British thing – sometimes in theory books and method books we go a little more towards the “facsimile” presentation, especially if the exercise is teaching something specific such as beaming or the like.
But in a basic exercise, the commas are not required, per the MBC2015.
