Nominate Someone For One Of NBA’s Awards
The National Braille Association is proud to offer recognition to individuals who have dedicated themselves to improving access to braille materials. Many hands in a wide range of roles support the task of getting braille readers to enjoy the same access to reading materials as their sighted peers. Some are transcribers, some are educators, and others still have written braille transcription code books. No matter the capacity in which they work, each one is instrumental to our mission.
Though we believe everyone committed to improving access to braille material deserves praise, two individuals are selected annually to receive an award. The Lifetime Achievement Award was first given out in 2011, and the Guiding Light Award for Devotion was first awarded in 2024. Both awards are now available for a recipient in 2025.
We have now opened nominations for both awards. Please consider honoring someone you know who has done exceptional work and deserves to be recognized.
Nominations will be accepted through August 15, 2025. Recipients will be invited to join us in October at our conference in Cincinnati, Ohio to receive their awards.
Lifetime Achievement Award
In 2011 the NBA introduced the Lifetime Achievement Award. Recipients have been nominated for their many years of work transcribing, teaching other transcribers, writing codes, and overall shown an extraordinary commitment to their work with braille.
You can visit our Lifetime Achievement Award page to see the list of recipients and information about each individual.

Guiding Light Award for Devotion (G.L.A.D.)
Introduced in 2024, the Guiding Light Award for Devotion is a remembrance for Margaret “Meg” Wagner, a volunteer transcriber and trainer for five decades. The G.L.A.D. award was created by the Wagner family to remember Meg, and to honor others who are following in her footsteps.
More information about Meg and last year’s recipient can be found on our educational awards page here.
