I have a diagram that has points of direction with letters that have a bidirectional arrow above the letters.

Can you please give me more information – and a picture would be best. Is this Nemeth? UEB Math? In what context.

It appears to be a vector. If that is the case (which I cannot tell you for sure without seeing more of the text). Here is what the “experts” (more than one in this case!) say:
