ParticipantThe updates to Braille Formats that was approved March 2024 clarifies the following about braille page changes and blank lines:
“When rules determine that a blank line follows text (e.g., a list, box or poem) and that text ends on line 24 or 25 of a braille page, the required blank line is placed at the top of the next braille page; line 1 if there is no running head or line 2 if a running head is used.”
The clarification specifically mentions text. My question is, since graphics require a blank line before and after them in braille, if a graphic ends on line 24 or 25 of a braille page, do we add the required blank line to the top of the next braille page? Or does this not apply because it is not considered text?

ModeratorHi Lynna,
Thank you for the question.
Although the clarification specifically discusses text, I think that a blank line is a blank line. I would apply the same format to all blank lines including a tactile.

ParticipantSo this question applies to text when the preceding text ends on lines 24-25, not tactile. I do appreciate your answer to the above question as well. We talk a lot about lists, poetry, box lines, etc as it relates to ending on lines 24 or 25 and the blank line coming at the top of the next braille page, but what about a paragraph that ends on line 25, followed by a centered, cell-5, or cell-7 heading. To me, it is intuitive to say that the required blank line goes at the top of the next braille page. So with a running head, the blank line is on line 2 and without a running head, line 1 is the blank line. Based on my research we do not clearly state this in the code. We say headings require a blank line before. We say lists, boxes, poetry ending on lines 24-25 require the blank line go at the top of the braille page, but can you give me a guideline that backs up my thinking as it relates to a braille page change?)) Are the attached examples correct? If so, or if not, can you please provide guidelines to explain?
Thank you so much!!
Angela

ModeratorI was not on the original thread for this question which was about changing from one braille page to another.
Angela B, are you asking a new question about the page change indicator?
