Announcing New NBA Publications!

With the transition to Unified English Braille that took place earlier this year, we strongly feel that relaying instruction about how to produce consistently high quality accessible materials in UEB is imperative to promoting braille literacy.  We are pleased to announce that we’ve recently made a number of new publications available exclusively in the online National Braille Association store! Here’s our newest titles:

In Pursuit Of Wayward Dots

Written and presented by NBA’s Tactile Graphics Committee Chair, Betty Marshall, much of the material in this publication was most recently presented at our Fall Professional Development Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. Betty covers a number of essential methods for ensuring your own material is error free before passing it along to your certified proofreader.

Available in print or ebook, In Pursuit Of Wayward Dots is available for $24.00 or the current NBA Member price of $16.00

Music Within UEB

Discussing preliminary pages, music theory, history and more, Heidi Lehmann, NBA Music Committee Chair, wrote and presented a workshop of the same title at our Fall Professional Development Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. This publication provides an introductory overview of how UEB will be implemented with the production of music related braille materials.

Available in print or ebook, Music Within UEB is available for $27.00, or $18.00 for current NBA Members

Using UEB In Technical Material

Wendy Benckhuysen, Chair of NBA’s Unified English Braille Committee, wrote and presented a workshop with a similar title at our Fall Professional Development Conference in Louisville, Kentucky last year. This publication delves in to the Guidelines for Technical Material publication and how to properly implement the ideas it lays out. Especially appropriate for both U.S. and Canadian transcribers, math, scientific notation and chemistry are among the topics covered.

Available in print or ebook, Using UEB In Technical Material is available for $27.00 or $18.00 for current NBA Members

Ornamentation In Braille Music

Another from the Chair of the NBA Music Braille Committee, Heidi Lehmann wrote and presented  Ornamentation In Braille Music for the Spring Professional Development Conference that took place in Austin, Texas. This title takes an advanced level music braille transcriber through proper usage of trills and mordents, and also factioning and tremolos while focusing on ornamentation within braille music, specifically using Bach, Mozart and Brahms.

Available in print or ebook, Ornamentation In Music Braille is available for $24.00 or $16.00 for current NBA Members
