I checked with a real math person and she said that it would not be necessary to indicate the color or the ovals around the columns (since the ovals encompass the entire column). However, the arrows should be drawn tactiley.
According to Braille Formats the alphabetic page numbers go on the line immediately following the running head (line 2). So if you are transcribing for 1st grade, the extra blank line would make it appear on line 3.
In abbreviations and Roman numerals, the effect of a double capitalization indicator extends to all the letters that follow, but a symbol other than a letter terminates its effect. In abbreviations, the double cap would end at a hyphen. Rule III sec. 22b
This rule does not apply to hyphenated compound words. The effectiveness of the double cap would extend through the hyphen. Could you cite the reference that says "a symbol other than a letter or a hyphen terminates its effect"?
Thanks for your help.
Yes, thank you very much!

Mary,
Sorry I did not get to this sooner. I was out of state and did not check Expert while I was gone. Lesson 19.7 of the Instruction Manual talks about volume size and division. Lesson 19.6 discusses chapter titles and how volume division can be made when a braille volume ends in the middle of the chapter.
I hope this helps.

Hello,
With quotation marks, you should follow print. What you are describing to me sounds like displayed or quoted material with emphasis, or an old, out-dated something. If you are using an old manual, yes, there have been changes. You can get the latest version (5th Edition) from APH or as a download from NFB. In the meantime, follow print for quotation marks. Hope this helps. 🙂

The poem that occurs in Lesson 19 of the Instruction Manual appears at the end of the Author's Note. The Author's Note is what began the text portion of the "trial" manuscript, and therefore should not have been included in the preliminary pages.
If your poem is on an unnumbered page and included in front matter, before the table of contents (and does not appear in the table of contents, then it would be preliminary pages.Does this clarify for you?
Jana
You are correct. You may use contractions for unabbreviated function names in non-math context.
Thank you. My class and I appreciate you. Bettie
oops.... wasn't Annie asking the question! My apologies, bnbdowning70 🙂 But my answer remains the same 🙂
JanaAnnie,
For manuscript purposes, unless you have a number that is really long, do not divide. Remember, if you divide words in your manuscript, you must be consistent throughout. Same would go for dividing numbers. The Instruction Manual tells us we do not have to divide (after Lesson 12), except for hyphenated compound words.
Hope this helps!
Jana
That's what I figured! Thanks a bunch!
Since we are not dividing words any longer, do we also not divide numbers?
Kathleen,
Onlt the words and, for, of, the, with and a can be joined together. An ampersand is not the "word" and. 🙂
Thanks for asking!
