BF 9.5.1(c) says; Do  not insert a blank line before a source citation... However, many of the sources in the book I am transcribing follow exercise material with numbered questions with lettered sub-items (1/5, 3/5) - see attached pdf.

BF 10.2.1 says: Each exercise set ... is preceded and followed by a blank line. And 8.3.2(a) A list is preceded and followed by a blank line in most cases.

I'm not sure if I should leave a blank line before the source citation or not. And I'm not sure in what cell to begin the citation. I can see see 3 possible options: 1) No blank line, begin source citation in cell 10 (fifth cell to the right of the beginning of the previous line - which is a runover that starts in cell 5); 2) Yes, leave a blank line - then does the citation begin in cell 5 or cell 10?

    Thank you for your expertise!

    Great question!

There is no exception for exercise material. The source citation will immediately follow 3b with no blank line.

Begin the course citation in cell 9 rather than cell 10.  I know it can be confusing. Formatting is almost always an odd-numbered cell. When it states that sources begin in the 5th cell to the right of the previous line, that does not mean 5 blank cells. In your sample, cells 5-8 are blank and cell 9 is the 5th cell.

Look at the cell count before each item below:

1-2-b. text text text text text (3-5)

1-2-3-4-runover text runover text. (cell 5 for the runover)

    1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-Source  (9-9)

    I hope that helps.

    Thanks for your question.
