This year the National Braille Association is excited to celebrate

200 YEARS OF BRAILLE

In 1824*, young Louis Braille created a six-dot system of reading and writing for the blind and visually impaired.

It’s incredible to think about how his system has enriched the lives of so many over the past two centuries!

We at the National Braille Association are celebrating this landmark invention. One of the ways in which we are doing that is by raising significant funds to keep our wonderful organization thriving and to assist our dear members.

It is our hope in the coming years to raise Three Million Dollars!!!

Our plan is to use the funds to enhance education, to keep costs low, and to add to the investments we already have. If we can reach our goal, we will be able to offer many of our services to NBA members at a much lower cost or even for free.

If you have been blessed, perhaps you’d consider making a $200 donation to the NBA to mark the 200th year celebration of the invention of braille. Or even multiples of $200, say, $400, $600, $800 or more. Another way to approach a donation (if you’ve REALLY been blessed and want to pay it forward) is to make a donation that starts with 2-0-0, such as $200, $2,000, $20,000, ($200,000?!?!). Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

* While many countries recognize 1824 as the year Braille invented his system, some countries (including his home country of France) recognize 1825 as the year it became official. For this reason, the NBA has decided to celebrate for two years. Who could argue against extending a celebration!!!
