I am curious how independent transcribers connect with a certified proofreader. What should I be looking for in a proofreader? Are there any proofreader certification programs other than the course offered through NLS?

Sorry for the delay in posting a reply. I know of no other proofreading certifications other than the courses that NLS offers. The National Federation of the Blind is the organization that administers NLS's courses. They may be able to give you a listing of certified proofreaders in your area. Unfortunately I believe there are very few independent proofreaders.

Are there any certified braille proofreaders in this group who are totally blind?  Looking for people to talk about the business with.  What happens after nls lesson 19?  Is it better to bee an independent or, allign with an agency like Aph?
