ellipsis and spacing

Hello,
Please look at the attachment and tell me if I need to put a letter sign before the 1st a in a…b = 2a-3b. In braille, the a is spaced away from the ellipses. I don’t think the b needs to have an ELI since it is adjacent to the sign of comparison.

Yes. I would say that you need a letter indicator on the a — it is essentially a single letter standing alone as defined in section 25.
