In Nemeth, besides at least one of the characters being a mathematical expression (beginning or ending the expression), what other situation would dictate the use of typeform indicator over the use of the italics symbol?

If the italicized expression or phrase if part of a labeled statement, the open and close italic indicators must be used. Nemeth sec. 33
