As I mentioned in answering your other post, I can't really give you specific answers for your manuscript.
In addition to the instructions in the Literary Lesson Manual, Please review Braille Formats Rule 2 secton 7 and also look at the examples for the Table of Contents.
Ansy specific questions relating to your manuscript should be addressed to Jennifer Dunnam at the National Federation of the Blind transcribers@nfb.org

Thanks, what if there are the words "introduction" or/& "prologue" before the line that says:

Chapter 1. "title of chapter"
Do you put "chapter" above that?

Thanks,

I am interested in either completing certification for Nemeth Braille or brailling literary braille for someone or organization. I've been certified in literary braille for a number of years, maybe 20? Thank you for any information available. I did note the suggested organizations to contact for literary braille, but the comments sounded like just research questions.

Would you be able to post an copy of your print? It would certainly be helpful. I am trying to understand why you would place a TN "in the middle of 5/3 diresctions". Transcriber's notes are always placed in 7/5, apart from the exception in Nemeth of 7 or fewer words, which may be embedded within the text (not on a new line).
In your 2nd question, does the note pertain to the main item, or to the subdivision? I really need to see the print in order to determine how best to handle this.

I am referring to the Five-Step Rule for Transcribing Modified Expressions. You can find it in the "Nemeth Braille Code For Mathematics". Rule XIV (p. 99). I also like to refer the the lesson book "An Introduction to Braille Mathematics". Lesson 11 (p. 187) expains it very clearly and has some good examples.

What is the 5-step method?
Thanks,

Not sure if these will be what you need, but APH will be airing a couple Webinars on Tactile Graphics in June. Check it out here http://www.aph.org/training/

I just looked in the old forum and found a couple of posts that addressed this issue. I see that the 5-step method is the correct way to handle underlined numbers, according to the code.

Thank you so much for your input Betty. I was told by another transcriber that she alway presents this informatio as a graphic.

Hi Susan
I personally believe that these examples should be shown in braille as a tactile graphic. I will also attach a suggestion made in the Guidelines and Standards for Tactile Graphics, where these arrows are used in conjunction with a number line. Whether their purpose is to indicate the decimal movement, or whether it is to indicate skip counting on a number line, I do not think that a transcriber's note or braille indicators adequately show the concept being taught in print.

There is a self-paced class on using the Duxbury translation software at the Carroll Center http://www.carrolltech.org/classes/index.php?s=1
This is not specifically for 11.1, but will give you most of the basics.

I believe the rule you are looking for is Rule XXV, Sec 191.b.ii concerning non-spacial itemized material containing both main divisions and subdivisions.
The key statement here is: Subdivision numbers or letters, regardless of depth, must begin in cell 3 and must runover, if necessary, in cell 5.

See Rule XXV Sec. 191bvi Pg. 197 in the Code.
