What is the difference between a chemical abbreviation and a chemical SYMBOL?  Is it just context?

Is the answer to 1. the same if you're using Formats 2011...block the first and indent the rest?

The vocab words are highlighted in a list at the beginning of chapters and highlighted each time they are used throughout the chapter. Other emphasized words are all in italics, thank goodness! Thank you for your always helpful and always clear explanations
