Thank you for your help. I'm attaching my attempt.

    • I omitted the 1/2 labels on the f(x) axis because I can't fit the negative one and I think it's easy enough for the reader to determine what they mean. Since I could fit the positive 1/2, should I?
    • The distance between the horizontal and the vertical tick marks in print are the same. In order to fit the labels, I've had to spread the (now) horizontal line so that the tick marks are farther apart. I can't maintain the same proportions as print. Should I mention this in the TN when I explain that I rotated the axes?

Later in the book this same issue comes up but as a graph with grid lines. Is it acceptable to also rotate a graph in this same way?

What a thorough answer! I appreciate all the effort that went into this. I think I'm all set now.

    Thanks so much!

Thanks Lindy. Sometimes it helps to just have things spelled out plain and simple. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks Lindy. I could not find any rule allowing the multipurpose indicator in this instance either. You're right, the hexadecimal string is plenty clear without the ELIs, especially since the letter x is not part of the hexadecimal system. A brief TN and problem solved! Thanks for your help. ๐Ÿ™‚

I only see the ASCII as I form this message. Let's see if posting turns it into braille.

So you remembered this project. It's been a thrill a minute. ๐Ÿ™‚ย  Fortunately these addresses don't come up very often. Thanks Lindy.

Thank you Kyle. I'm getting closer to feeling like I've got a handle on this project.

The print presentation in the two-column format creates a messy situation with so many print runovers with no way for me to know which are significant. Sometimes it's clear and sometimes it's not. Often, other entries make it obvious which line breaks are not significant so I started making decisions I really have no business making. By following your suggestion to reproduce all line breaks in the computer notation, I no longer have that burden. Let the reader decide, right?ย  I like that! I will incorporate your suggestion and see what happens.ย  I may be back with more questions. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Thank you Lindy.

Apparently I put the wrong print sample with the braille, which accounts for those errors. Sorry about that!

    Excellent! Thank you Lindy.

I was wondering about the equals sign the way it's being used in this sample. I assume then, I can divide wherever the line naturally falls rather than bringing the equals sign to the next line if it doesn't all fit on one line, correct?

Do you think at some point the powers that be might consider letting us use UEB symbols for those nonmathematical instances? Sure seems like it would be simpler for the reader (and the transcriber).

Thank you again. I really appreciate the help!

    Hi Lindy,

I've attached two transcription efforts of a table from this manual that I hope you can critique for me. I have many, many of these so I want to get it right.

Excellent. Thank you for the helpful advice. I should be able to make good progress this week. No doubt I will have a couple more questions along the way. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Lindy,

No screeching halt required. I've gone back and forth and back again trying to come up with a good solution so I'm really not far into the transcription. I am relieved that you confirmed (almost) everything I've been thinking! I also realized that either way, the computer commands would end being uncontracted.

So then, do you still stand by the use of Nemeth code for the IP addresses, subnet masks, and binary representations as discussed in the post entitled "IP addresses" in this forum?

You also pointed to the section in UEBGTM about Hexadecimal numbers so I'm not certain if you are thinking the table I asked about in the post entitled "Networking manual" in this forum should not be done differently than Kyle suggested.

I really appreciate the time you've taken to help me figure this out.

    Thank you,

    Laurie
