The translated glossary is transcribed as a foreign language transciption using the current published rules, The NBA Interim Manual for Foreign Language Braille Transcribing. See sectin 6.1 on foreign abbrevications.

What a great question! No letter sign. In this context it’s not necessary. The reader will know that the page is not numbered EITHER9.

So if a table is so wide that it will not fit across 80 cells, facing pages should be abandoned and some other technique used, even if it’s vertical division that takes more than one braille page?
Thanks for the great question. Use the provisions in the Interim Manual because this is an Italian number. Long numbers refers to ANY number, whether a telephone number or not. Since this is a foreign language transcription, the reference to numbers apply to ANY foreign language number. This is because foreign number notation for ANY number, including a phone number, is often different than United States/English. Leave the space after the T. (I believe that’s a period anyway) and insert the decimal and close the space after the 07 as stated in the Interim Manual, because that is the number.

13.8.1 clearly says to place notes to poems at the end of the bottom of the print page following the note separation line. The guideline goes on to say that a blank line is inserted between the end of a stanza or the end of the poem and the separation line. This means that if the entire poem (or just the stanza) ends on that print page, insert a blank line before the note separation line and then transcribe the notees as usual following the separation line. That extra blank line tells the reader that the poem (or stanza) ends on that page.

I think this section means what it says. It says not to change wording. See also Section 1.1.4–A transcriber does not edit text. The former 1997 Braille Formats did provide for such a change in wording, but that has changed. Section 101.5 is that change.

I would like to see a print page so I can see this in context. I’m not sure what is meant by form name. Could this possibly be a computer program FILE name? Sometimes a form is named the same as the actual computer filename.

I’m way ahead of you! I’ve checked with Larry and Heidi on a few things already – I’m certified in music braille and having a blast doing full scores! Luckily, this score only has the German without translations – makes a little easier to manage, I think! I’ve got one coming up that has three languages… that should be fun!
Oh an opera score! You may also want to consult over in our Music Braille forum, especially if you are also transcribing the actual music. They will be glad to help with the music and with issues involving language and incorporating the libretto and other text.

Thanks so much – the symbol did not come through in the post. (I’ve just placed an order for the manual.) I’m working on an opera score with German text. For some reason, the EBAE only lists the vowels with umlauts and not the ess-zett. I look forward to getting the manual and learning more! Thanks again!
KathleenThe symbol is in the post. Didn’t you see it? Dots 2346. What are you transcribing? Is this a German foreign language book for someone taking a course? Somthing else? These’a lot to be aware of in foreign language braille besides a few symbols.
